Global Forest Watch Responds to Comments made during Question Period

Posted on April 29th, 2010

During Question Period in the House on April 19th, 2010 Tory Leader Hugh McFadyen incorrectly stated that “it’s Global Forest Watch that said that the west-side line is wrong; it endangers more intact boreal forest than the east-side line.”

In response, Peter Lee, Executive Director of Global Forest Watch – Canada, wrote an official response, that went to all members of the Manitoba Legislative Assemble, from Global Forest Watch – Canada to correct Mr. Fadyen’s inaccurate statement and include the most recent map produced by Global Forest Watch – Canada showing Manitoba intact forest.

In the letter to Mr. McFadyen, Peter Lee states ” I would like to share a snapshot of Manitoba from our most recent mapping in Canada’s intact forests – which does show that the east side of Lake Winnipeg contains more intact boreal forest than the west side.”
